William Tollefson, Ph.D., known as Dr. Bill to
clients and colleagues alike, is a
well-known expert amongst his peers on the effects of trauma and
abuse and has developed a highly effective and simple technique
for relieving some of the worst effects of Post Traumatic
Stress, called the Rapid Reduction Technique.
In normal memory processing, the
voluntary recollection of past events in one’s life is done by
accessing our normal memory bank. If every experience in our
life was good then the act of remembering would be effortless
and without incidence. Yet every event in our life is not good.
Everyone carries memories of deep hurt from life events from our
childhood, adolescents or adulthood to this day.
Painful events can be the result of incidences of:
• experiencing belittlement
• being bullied
• abandonment
• car accidents
• combat experiences
• depression
• divorce
• harassment
• isolation
• job loss
• loss of a love one
• relationship breaks-ups
• re-locating
• rejection
• terror (scared)
• trauma
• violence
• abuse
Any one of these experiences can produce a painful emotional
scar and symbolically steal a part of the human soul. The memory
from these experiences lay mentally inactive for many years.
Many years of research into how the human brain processes
memory, has proven that traumatic memory is treated in a
different manner by the brain than non-traumatic memory.
Traumatic memory is treated differently because of the painful
emotion that the brain was unable to deal with at that time. At
some point the brain sends the memory back into consciousness
for closure. This action by the brain is called a “flashback”.
There are four different types of flashbacks that can surface:
• visual image
• organ or body experience
• unexplained intense emotion
• sound
Flashbacks do not occur to hurt or injure the individual, but to
make closure. Yet traumatic flashbacks are painful and seem
real. In the past, suffers of flashbacks were told that he/she
would have to “grin and bear it”, “just get over it”, deal with
it through many years of therapy, “medicate them away” or lastly
“it was something they would have to live with”.
These misunderstandings create feelings
of:
• confusion
• depression
• guilt
• anger
• shame
• dysfunction
Now there is a way out. You can learn a life skill that will
empower your brain to take back order and achieve closure. That
new life skill is called “Rapid Reduction Technique” or RRT for
short. Rapid Reduction Technique is a specially designed life
skill that targets unclosed traumatic memory.
RRT allows a person too safely and
protectively:
• revisit
• reset
• close
• and then file the traumatic memory
Dr. Bill's book,
Separated From the Light
: A Path Back from Psychological Trauma puts forth his theories and principles for stopping
the haunting memories from the experience of trauma and abuse.
He has also created CD's and DVD's for both
survivors and
professionals that teach his
Rapid Reduction Technique,
which is the same ground-breaking, process that he uses in his
practice. Incorporating these techniques into life coaching
sessions, Dr. Bill can help anyone develop the healing life
skills necessary to take back their
personal authority from memories of past trauma and
abuse and move forward in life. ...learn more |
